What Is An Escape Room?
Can I Pay For Just Myself When I Make My Booking?
Why choose la crosse Escape room over another escape room?
Your prices used to be the same per person. Why did your pricing model change?
The Escape Room industry has changed a lot over the years. Every group is unique—whether you’re a group of 2 players or 8, escape room enthusiasts having done hundreds of room or first-timers. Creating a one-size-fits-all 60-minute game is nearly impossible, often leading to experiences that are too long, too short, too easy, or too hard, often settling for a compromise. To change this, La Crosse Escape Room has adopted Off the Couch’s “pay-by-time” model for all our experiences.
Bookings at La Crosse Escape Room are now based on the average completion time (across all group sizes and experience levels) for each experience. If you complete the game faster than the average time, any remaining time is credited to your customer account with us, redeemable for future games. You can also transfer these credits to other players if you wish. For a breakdown on the current rooms’ length and price, please go to our pricing page!
Will we be playing with strangers?
No. We offer all private rooms at no extra charge. Once you book a room, it will automatically be closed out to the public and no further action will be necessary to ensure a private room.
Is it scary?
Not really. It depends on which room you choose to do. Currently we have a Bootlegger’s Pub themed room, a Serial Killer room, a Prison Break, a 50’s Diner room, The Electric Chair, Home Alone, and Lost Teddy. Our Serial Killer has some elements that may make some people uncomfortable but it’s not the same type of scary you would expect from a haunted house. Rather, the puzzles and props in the room are ones of which you might find in a Serial Killer’s lair.
How long does it take?
Currently, our 50’s Diner, Bootlegger’s Pub, and Home Alone are 55 minute rooms. Serial Killer is 50 minutes. The Electric Chair is 60 minutes and our Prison Break is 70 minutes in length. Lost Teddy is 45 minutes. We will offer more rooms in the future that could vary in length. Please arrive 15 minutes before your session begins. This allows enough time to get checked in, use the restroom if necessary, and get an explanation of some of the rules. Expect your entire session to take roughly 60-90 minutes from the time you enter our facility to the time you leave depending on which experience you choose.
Is It Difficult?
Yes and no. Our rooms are meant to be challenging but vary in difficulty. The average success rate hovers around 50% to 90% depending on the room. We offer unlimited clues with all of our rooms.
Why do you recommend 3 or more people to play?
We now allow groups of 2 to participate in our rooms. But please keep in mind, our rooms are meant to be challenging enough for up to the room maximum. Playing a game with less than 3 people can be overly challenging (even overwhelming) especially for first timers. For that reason we suggest having at least 3 people when booking a room. Please note, Prison Break physically requires 3 people to complete one of the tasks and the Electric Chair requires 3 people to complete that room. During our busiest times of the year, there will be higher minimums than usual.
What is the cost?
The cost is of our rooms ranges and depends on which room you choose. Our rooms have differing levels of difficulty and are priced according to average amount of time it take to complete each room. We have a tiered pricing model, so the more people you have in each group, the lower the cost is per person. Age 4 and under are free. Take a look at our pricing page for current pricing based on which room you choose.
